Who We Are
About EASL.
Sri Lanka's epilepsy charity since 1989 — built on compassion, driven by science.
Our Story
Three decades of
quiet, relentless work.

Founded in Colombo
Our vision: every person living with epilepsy in Sri Lanka is free of stigma — living, feeling, and accepted the same as all others.
Founded in 1989 in Colombo, the Epilepsy Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) was established by a group of neurologists, patients, and advocates who recognised that the gap between medical knowledge and public understanding was costing lives. Epilepsy was — and in many communities still is — surrounded by fear, superstition, and shame.
For over 35 years, EASL has worked to bridge that gap. From training community health workers in rural districts to partnering with TV broadcasters on public awareness campaigns, we operate wherever change is needed. We are a not-for-profit charity with no political affiliation, funded entirely by donations and membership contributions.
We are a proud member of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), connecting our local work to global best practice and advocacy.
